One year ago, on this 7th of september, I took off for 6-month adventure in Hamburg. I can still feel the weight of the backback on my shoulders and the excited tingles in my stomach, and in fact pretty much every detail of that day, like a movie in my mind. But there seems to be a lifetime of experiences in this last year, which makes it seem like it lasted a decade.
I don't regret my decision to finish my school here, and I'm excited to start classes again next week. I had to get out of it all to appreciate it again and see things in a different light. But that doesn't take away that I miss the amazing beauty and 'ease' of the city, the life, the people and the school there. It's good to know places like that exist.
In a few months I can move again, so I'm excited for whatever the next 12 months will bring. Untill then I'll be so busy learning a lot and spending time with loved ones, that I probably won't even be able to notice the immer grey skies above this silly little town. Ignorance is bliss, sometimes. Ha!

Homes made of wood. With windows and creeks for the sunbeams to sneak in. With flowing curtains for the wind to play with. And with plenty of space to cuddle up with newspapers, sweet cake, letters to friends, cups of coffee, good books, and lovers.

I'm back from a most most most amazing german (and a tiny bit italian) adventure.
These are some of the landscapes that have formed my temporary homeland.

I know photographing landscapes is always a tricky thing, because the pictures never come close to the real experience, and especially with those beautiful green fields and perfect blue skies, it often felt almost too cliché to capture. I usually tend to be a bit sceptical towards postcards and think they are just made up, but how have I been proven wrong! The views I've seen have been even more beautiful than postcards.

So, with the pictures not being that interesting, see this as a sneakpeak into the posts to come. A scenery-sketch like they do in the beginning of movies and books. Fly over the landscape in your mind and then slowly zoom in on one of the houses because there is a naked person sitting on a wooden chair in the kitchen, whipping up some cream.

I have been living like a little nomadic girl for the past two weeks. Traveling all over the Netherlands and a trip to English countryside. I enjoy seeing all these wonderful people and places, but now I'm as tired as can be and am also very much looking forward to sleep in my own bed again and have quietness around me. One can only travel for so long. Like people with travelsickness need a stable point to focus on in order not to get sick, I need a stableness to go back to every now and then in order not to get nervous and itchy.

Ungeduld von Goethe

Immer wieder in die Weite,
über Länder an das Meer,
Phantasien, in der Breite
schwebt am Ufer hin und her!

Neu ist immer die Erfahrung:
Immer ist dem Herzen bang,
Schmerzen sind der Jugend Nahrung,
Tränen seliger Lobgesang.

I want to be a cat. I made a mixtape about it. Jeroen is the master of adding catness to pictures.

Like last year, the school is a mess and the cherries are delicious. It's just not quite vacation yet.

Hong Kong last summer. I only took four analog pictures, but for me they've captured our few days in the city perfectly, and looking at them now makes me remember the strange smells, sounds and humid weather.
Whenever we talk about it now, my mum always says she felt uncomfortable there because she couldn't read any signs, but that's what I loved most about it. It's so nice sometimes not to notice everything. It is like walking around a city with headphones on. And don't they say that by shutting off one sense, you will use the others better? I think it works like that with strange languages as well.

Finally some sun!
This is my brother. This photo makes me laugh because it's so silly. You don't know how much I'd love to be back here again. :(

My father photographed lost and lonely old men, I photographed lost and lonely(ish) old chairs.

My cousin had her swimming exam today and she was amazing of course. She a true watermonster as you may see.
Other than that, I had 'holidays' this week: too much work, too much sleep, too much food and now I'm left with not nearly enough time to finish everything. So I just do nothing.

Around this time tomorrow I'll be on Swedish ground. I'll be spending a few days in Stockholm. Even just looking at the map and saying all these swedish names made me excited. I can't wait to actually be there.

I'm finally really properly True Blue. Almost as blue as the ocean. (This is my favourite bit of ocean of all time, I'll tell you more about it another time). I'm so happy!

Adelaide, Australia.
I had walked through an almost empty city on my own for hours when I saw a small black cat leading into an alleyway, and in between high, fancy glass building, I found this small and messy place, next to a building that only had his outer walls left. I sat down in the sun and pretended to be a tuxedo cat, sadly without a drink or organic soup.

"We always try to edit our lives, show the best part of ourselves to the audience. But we're full of shit and full of contradicitons. Other people see them; we just don't want to admit them. It's very good to learn what other people see about you. It's a good lesson."

The past few days have been rainy and stormy, good for staying inside with tea, reading books/papers/magazines and listening to Cat Power.

In an empty room, not quite able to say goodbye to the posters and pictures on my walls just yet, I listen to this, thanks to mr. bladzijde for passing it on.
We saw Leipzig, New York, Las Vegas, Rotterdam and China and sat down to enjoy the view. When I came home I couldn't speak anymore.
